MagTek POS Demo

A step-by-step guide to operating the checkout, payments, and system settings.

System Overview

The MagTek POS Demo (Point of Sale) is a unified retail and hospitality transaction interface that leverages MagTek hardware, the Magensa Gateway, Qwantum Tokens and an optional Star Printer and Cash Drawer. It handles catalog sales, custom amount keypad pricing, digital customer wallet redemption (NFC/Barcode/Magnetic Stripe) via connected MagTek readers, tipping configurations, and custom eReceipt routing with DynaCast™ Technology. The demo will work on all operating systems (Windows, Mac, Linux, iOS, iPadOS, and Android) any modern browser.

Product Catalog

Quick-tap items sorted into Appetizers, Entrees, and Beverages tabs directly update your shopping cart.

Qwantum Tokens

Integrates secure hardware authentication to automatically parse patron identities, balances, and custom banners.

Control Navbar & Connectivity

Use the utility controls in the top navigation bar to establish hardware connectivity and authenticate operators:

UI Element & Icon Function & Operator Action
Login / Logout Authenticates the POS cashier. Required if "Enable POS Login" is active in Settings. The credential used to sign in is a Qwantum Token with a claim = "POSLogin = true".
Disconnected Connected MagTek Reader Status Badge: Displays real-time connection state of the MagTek reading hardware connected via MQTT.
Initializes the WebSocket/MQTT framework to securely connect with the physical MagTek reader device and optional connection to a Star Printer and Cash Drawer. Click this during startup.
/ Theme Toggle: Switches the layout between Light Mode and Dark Mode for high/low light conditions.
Settings Gear: Launches the administrative drawer to modify tax rates, tip options, and API endpoints.

Building a Sale

You can construct orders using two methods inside the left workspace panel. The UI/UX is both Desktop and Mobile optimized so it will fit any screen including a mobile phone.

A. Tab-Based Catalog
  1. Select either the Appetizers, Entrees, or Beverages tab at the top.
  2. Click on any menu item card. It will automatically populate into the Current Sale sidebar on the right.
  3. Adjust quantities or review details directly within the active cart lists.
B. Custom Keypad Input
  1. Navigate to the Keypad tab.
  2. Key in a custom dollar amount. Use C to clear mistakes before submitting.
  3. Click the blue Add Item button at the bottom of the grid to move the custom charge into the shopping cart.

Checkout & Payment Workflow

Verify Cart & Initiate Charge

Review totals in the Current Sale sidebar. Subtotals, tax, and totals update dynamically as items are added.

Action Click the green Charge $[Total] button. If it is disabled, ensure at least one item is added to the cart.

Select Tipping Option (If Enabled)

If tipping is activated in Settings, the "Add a Tip?" modal appears before taking payment:

  • Tap one of the quick percentage (or dollar) buttons configured by the manager.
  • Type a custom value into the field and press Apply.
  • To bypass tipping entirely, click the No Tip button.

Process Customer Token / Wallet

The "Payment Required" modal displays the pending total balance due.

Operator Instructions: Direct the patron to Dip, Tap, Swipe, or Scan their physical card or mobile wallet on the MagTek terminal. Keep an eye on the spinning transaction indicator.

Simulate eReceipt

Send a simulated "eReceipt" via DynaCast Technology.

Operator Instructions: Under Settings, select one of the eReceipt choices in the drop-down for eReceipt Options. When ready, press the button for Simulate eReceipt and a modal window will prompt the consumer to tap their phone to the MagTek reader. Make sure the consumer's phone is not set to blocking pop-ups in their preferred mobile browser.

Open Till/Cash Drawer

Press the button for "Open Till/Cash Drawer" and then present a valid Qwantum Token using the QMFA Wallet for iOS or Android.

Operator Instructions: Press the button for Open Till/Cash Drawer and then present a valid Qwantum Token (dynamic QR Code with a valid TOTP value) using the QMFA Wallet for iOS or Android. When the token is sucessfully redeemed, a time-stamped audit trail receipt will print and the cash drawer will open. The Qwantum Token will require a configured claim to include the key of "TillAccess" and a value of "admin".

Post-Transaction Receipts

When a transaction completes successfully, the POS presents a comprehensive receipt confirmation modal detailing the following secure metadata fields:

  • Patron Identity Displays user avatar & registered name
  • Remaining Wallet Balance Real-time ledger updates shown in bold
  • Location Stamps Includes transaction geo-coordinates
  • Token Usage / Reward Banner Shows promotional alerts & graphic banners
  • eReceipt Integrations Appends examples using Starbucks, Restaurant, or Qwantum Tokens
  • New Sale Refresh Resets the registry state with one-click

Configuration & Administrative Controls

Press the gear icon inside the navbar to configure system variables. Operators must save changes before exiting the settings panel.

Merchant Details

Update names, multi-line corporate addresses, storefront telephone lines, emails, and primary web domains.

MQTT Connection Paths

Configure the MQTT Dev Path for the payment reader and the MQTT Print Path for physical printer mapping. Configure the MQTT Print Path to exactly match the path specified in your QwantiFi Print service settings. This alignment is required to enable and configure the target printer for MQTT communication if the printer lacks native MQTT support.

Tax & Tipping Defaults

Toggle tipping prompts on/off, customize percentage vs. fixed-dollar layouts, and set local sales tax rates.

Simulate eReceipt

This function demonstrates sending a URL for a simulated eReceipt via DynaCast Technology.

Enable POS Login

Toggle the ability to simulate a POS Login workflow using Qwantum Tokens.

Troubleshooting & Device Diagnostics

Reader status stays "Disconnected"
Make sure that the MagTek reader is connected to the MagTek MQTT broker.Refresh the page, and press "Connect Reader".

Inspecting RAW Hex Packets
Navigate to the Devices tab in the register panel, click the Log chevron to expand the system log, and view connection packets, card reads, and API handshakes inside the LogData viewport.

Clear Current Session
If the layout displays errors or you need to cancel a customer build, tap the red Clear button at the bottom of the checkout column.
